Cromia is part of the long history of Laipe SpA, a company founded in 1963 by Germano Sciamanna. With experience in the leather handicraft industry, he started the business in Tolentino, in the Marche region of Italy, where there is a strong and ancient leather craft tradition.
The courageous and enterprising Germano began producing small leather goods for the national market. Thanks to his great skill, he was able to set up partnerships with the most important Italian and international fashion companies.
One of these was a collaboration with Gianni Versace, who, in 1981, commissioned Laipe to produce and distribute women’s leather accessories.
This fundamental partnership was the starting point of Laipe’s growth, not just in terms of figures, but in bringing the expertise of the world’s fashion industry into the company.
At the end of the 1990s Germano’s sons, Sergio and Gino Sciamanna, entered the family business. Gino, the elder brother, managed production, while Sergio, who became the CEO of the company, managed trade, creating new business with well-known brands inside and outside Italy.
In 2003, their dream came true: they created their own brand.
The Sciamannas knew they needed efficient workers who shared their idea of business. The central point for the Sciamannas was to create something new without neglecting their background, the strong leather craft and attention to detail. Their aim was to mix tradition, Italian style and brand identification.
Thanks to this positive climate of innovation and growth, Sergio met Danilo Pavon in one of the largest tanneries in Tuscany. Danilo was there on behalf of another company to select leathers and colours, and his bold and original choices struck Sergio: Danilo looked at the world of leather with an innovative spirit.
This chance meeting between Danilo and the Sciamanna family gave body and soul to Cromia. Its characteristic use of colours and materials, quality and innovation saw the company become a recognised brand for women who want to stand out from the crowd.
