1. TROPICAL PRINTS

Tropical prints were hailed as the new florals for 2018, from rainbow hues to swirly prints and the forever favourite: Hawaiian prints. So we suggest jumping on the print bandwagon; because no one needs to know that you barely ventured 100 miles from home all summer long. As far as your wardrobe is concerned, you’ve been island-hopping from Maui to Kauai.

Your way: Put a chic spin on prints by opting for a hibiscus leaf-print maxi dress with a cinched waist and slightly flared skirt. Turn up the flower power by styling your after-dark look with daisy-shaped drop earrings.

2. PUFF SLEEVES

Think Dynasty glamour for day and night. Puff-sleeved jackets, dresses with big shoulders and a parade of structured blouses. Time to embrace the power puff, we say.

Your way: Opt for a striped short-sleeved blouse with exaggerated shoulders. Pull the look into 2018 with sleek leather trousers (or tapered trousers) and metallic leather ankle boots.

3. POWER SHORTS

2018 saw the rise of summer tailoring in the form of statement shorts: the silky boxer style, the high-waisted leather style and, our personal favourite, tailored shorts crafted from mid-weight wool and cut to sit high on the waist.

Your way: Try high-waisted stretch-cotton shorts with a woven leather belt. Whether your shorts are tan or black, they’ll work with an oversized checked blazer, a polka-dot blouse or even a logo-print T-shirt. If it’s warm enough to go bare-legged, finish the look with platform brogues or slingback pumps with a transparent section.
